Texas State Study

$5.99

This Texas state study is going to be a little bit different from most you'll find! Most state studies have a large focus on memorizing "fun facts" about the state, so that your child can recite the state capital, the state motto, and the state bird with ease by the end of the study, and hopefully, they will even remember these fun facts a few months down the road.

I was searching for a state study, and I thought: There must be a better way. What if we were able to teach our kids about matters that have real historical, scientific, and cultural significance while we are studying a particular state? A geography study that goes beyond fun facts and “strange but true” tidbits?

That was the big idea behind this state study. While learning about Texas, yes, you will learn the state capital and the state bird, but you'll also dive into things that are really worth understanding in relation to the state's role in history. You'll cover heavier topics like the Battle of the Alamo and Juneteenth (why did it take so long for enslaved people in Texas to be freed?). You'll cover lighter topics of great significance to understanding Texas culture like tex-mex food and the story of Latina superstar, Selena Quintanilla. From the significance of cattle ranching in Texas, to the invention of Dr. Pepper, with this study, you're able to go far beyond 'fun facts.'

Who is this for?

This is aimed at mid-elementary students, because that’s the usual time when state studies are a need and an interest for homeschool families. The content is certainly adaptable for multiple ages, and even older students will learn things they never knew about Texas! Student activity pages do require some writing of the student, and some research. With younger students, you’ll want to do the research alongside your student.

What's Included?

-A Teacher's Guide with a booklist, detailed plans for 6 units, and short informational readings written in a conversational style for each of the 6 units.

-Student Activity Pages: Several activity pages designed to enhance the topics explored in each unit. Students will get to read and study a poem, research important figures in Texas history, study the flags that have flown over Texas, and much more!

-23 Visual Cards - These cards with images support the learning statements introduced in each unit.
Page Count: 55+ pages

Looking for other states? We have Michigan available now!

For best results, open with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and print from that program. This document can be printed single-sided or double-sided (the visual cards in particular should be printed double-sided) but you will likely want to make extra prints the student pages, depending on how many children or students you have participating.

Please Note: This product is for your personal use only, not for resale or redistribution in any way. You will receive a digital product only. Any books or other items in the photos are included for staging purposes only.
